Step 3

Obtaining a Diagnosis
Obtaining an accurate diagnosis from a skilled provider is crucial to your success. With a precise diagnosis, you will be able to develop an informed answer to the question, "why am I or my loved one struggling?" Without an accurate diagnosis, it is easy to draw an incorrect conclusion. For instance, a child with an unrecognized auditory processing disorder may be erroneously blamed for not listening. The parents of a child with an unrecognized language processing difficulty such as dyslexia, might believe that their child simply needs to try harder in order to read or spell well. Adults with an undiagnosed form of ADHD may perpetually struggle with organization and time management and decide that they are stupid or lazy. A precise diagnosis can provide you with understanding, open doors to proper intervention, and assure that you are on the right path.
