Ability Services - Building On Strengths

Step 7

Identifying Strengths
Successful adults build their lives on what they do well. While it is important to identify and work with one's weaknesses, nurturing our strengths, interests, and passions is one of the keys to life-long success. For instance, one child may be particularly challenged by reading, but that same child may be gifted in mathematical and visual-spatial processing. Another child may struggle with writing, but have outstanding musical abilities. An adult may have difficulty focusing for long periods of time, yet be a talented entrepreneur. For children and adults with differences, it is particularly important to support avenues of competency and success. These "avenues of competency" are the pathways on which future successful endeavors can be pursued. Remember, by focusing on strengths and creating "avenues of competency" yours or your child's success will be greatly enhanced.
